Valia Bondarchuk, of the educational department of ‘Hope for People’ participated in the 5 th All Ukrainian academic competition “Young scholars of the Bible” which was held on the premises of the National University ‘Ostroh Academy’.

The competition was held with the assistance of: the Ukrainian Department of Education, the Ukrainian Department of Youth and Sport, and the Ukrainian Bible society. Nearly 200 pupils from all over Ukraine competed on the birth-place of the Ostroh Bible. The competition lasted for two days.

Competition participants included pupils of the 1-11 forms who were winners of their school competitions and who study the subjects of religious and ethical topics, such as: ‘Ethics’, ‘The basis of Christian ethics’, ‘Christian ethics in the context of Ukrainian culture’, ‘Man and The Universe’, and ‘Man and Community’. In addition, all those who signed in on the web-site participated too. During the competition, pupils of the 1-4 forms exhibited their creative works (drawings,

appliqué works, etc.) on the topic ‘Every creature feels the need for love’. The 5th form pupils presented their essays on the topic ‘The fight of Good and Evil in our lives ’; 6th form – ‘Serving as a response to worship’; 7th form – ‘The problem of choosing values in my life’; 8th form – ‘The similarity in the concepts of morality and right’. 9th – 11th forms worked over the project of assistance for orphaned children, low-income families and other social groups that need help from

the government. A special test was prepared for the pupils of 5th – 11th forms that checked their knowledge of the Scriptures, a discussion on the topic ‘Christian moral values – the guarantee for a righteous life and are there any alternatives in the 21th century?’ and presentations of the developed projects. The pupils of 5th – 8th forms defended their works. The participants worried; facilitators soothed them. Everybody who adopted the decision based on The Bible was a winner.
